The Home Front in Sutton Coldfield: around New Hall Mill in WW2

We really enjoy our WW2 themed Open Days. For our 1940s day in 2025, Sheridan, a Friend of the Mill, researched what was happening at New Hall Mill and its surroundings during the War. This included:

  • Charles George Davis, our miller during the War
  • The people who lived at the farms and houses around the Mill during the War
  • Ben Davis, later our last miller, who was on active service during the War
  • The Women's Voluntary Service in Sutton Coldfield
  • The WAAFs and their Bugle Band in Sutton Coldfield
  • The Land Army in Sutton Coldfield
  • Policewomen in Sutton Coldfield

We displayed her findings on one of the noticeboards in The Stable gift shop and exhibition room.

If you can add any interesting local details to Sheridan's research, please contact her by email, or look out for her when you visit.
