The Stable Gift Shop and Exhibition

The Stable Gift Shop is an old stable building which was converted in 2007. It is a listed building. When you're in the Stable, don't miss the wonderful brick floor, the old tack, and the hay mangers in the far corners!

The stable is accessible to visitors in wheelchairs.

Inside, you can buy souvenirs, guide books, ice creams, and second hand fiction books. You can also watch our 14 minute video tour of the mill, an opportunity for visitors who are unable to access the upper floors to see the mill in operation.

The Stable is also an exhibition room, used to display items of milling and local interest, including the Twamley Jug, a selection of paintings, and some mill tokens.

Some of the items, including metal, old shoes, and codd bottles, are on display in their own case. They were discovered during an excavation of a disused gear wheel pit.

The presence of unbroken Codd bottles suggests that no children lived at the mill at that time, as they would have wanted to smash the bottles to get to the glass marbles contained in their necks.

On Open Days, the Stable is open to visitors until 4 pm. We accept cash and credit card payments, but please note that all purchases must be compete before 3.45 pm when our till closes for the day.
